Health Advisory for International Medical Tourists Visiting India

Before Travel

  1. Medical Documents:
    • Carry all relevant medical records, prescriptions, imaging reports (X-rays, MRIs), and consultation summaries.
    • Bring recent lab results and a letter from your primary physician.
  2. Vaccinations (As per WHO & India’s MoHFW):
    • Ensure you are vaccinated against:
      • COVID-19 (complete doses)
      • Hepatitis A & B
      • Typhoid
      • Tetanus-diphtheria
      • Yellow Fever (mandatory if coming from endemic zones)
  3. Medications:
    • Bring a sufficient supply of your ongoing medications for the entire stay.
    • Keep a prescription letter for customs clearance.
  4. Travel Insurance:
    • It is advisable to have international travel health insurance that covers medical emergencies and trip cancellations.
  5. Ayush Visa or Medical Visa:
    • Confirm visa requirements with the Indian embassy in your country.
    • Medical or Ayush Visa is mandatory for treatment in India.
    • Keep digital and printed copies of your visa, passport, and treatment confirmation letter.

During Travel & Stay

  1. Stay Hydrated & Eat Cautiously:
    • Drink only bottled or filtered water.
    • Eat well-cooked food; avoid raw street food to prevent stomach infections.
  2. Infection Prevention:
    • Follow hygiene practices: handwashing or sanitizing frequently.
    • Wear a mask in crowded or hospital areas.
  3. Climate Considerations:
    • India has varied climates. Check the local weather and pack accordingly.
    • Use sunscreen and insect repellents if needed.
  4. Emergency Support:
    • Keep contact numbers for your facilitator and hospital handy.
    • Register with your embassy in India for safety alerts and assistance.
  5. Transportation & Accommodation:
    • Use trusted transport providers.
    • Stay in hygienic, hospital-affiliated or facilitator-approved accommodations.

  1. Recovery & Rest:
    • Follow your post-treatment recovery instructions strictly.
    • Avoid strenuous travel or activities unless cleared by your physician.
  2. Follow-up Care:
    • Ensure all follow-up appointments are scheduled.
    • Collect a discharge summary and follow-up protocol before departure.
  3. Digital Consultation:
    • Arrange for virtual follow-up care with your doctor or facilitator after you return home.
